A free, browser-based D&D XP tracker for Dungeon Masters to easily reward role playing.
Note: This scalable system ensures the base XP gained from each button is automatically adjusted based on the character's level.
Characters at Level 1 earn 10% of the base XP, reaching 100% at Level 10. For levels above 10, XP continues to increase, up to 200% (double) of the base amount at Level 20.
Note: The Combat/Milestone XP entered above is distributed as is and is not scaled by character level.
This scalable system ensures the base XP gained from each button is automatically adjusted based on a character's level: (Why is RP XP scaled?)
These values were determined to help players earn approximately 10% to 20% of their total experience points for leveling up from role-playing, rather than solely relying on combat encounters.
Your character data (names, levels, and XP totals) is automatically saved right in your browser's memory (using Local Storage). This means:
This tracker supports 1 to 8 characters simultaneously. You can change the number of active characters using the dropdown at the bottom of the tracker.

The reason for scaling role-playing experience (while combat or milestone experience is not) is twofold, representing both game mechanics and in-world logic.
From a game design perspective, scaling role-playing XP is crucial for maintaining balance and consistent relevance throughout your character's journey. At low levels, a fixed amount would be disproportionately powerful; at high levels, it would be negligible. This ensures RP XP always feels meaningful, much like how combat challenges inherently scale (you fight goblins at Level 1 and dragons at Level 20). The reward scales to relevance.
While the role-playing acts themselves are constant—meaning the same behavior in the same situation—the in-game reason for them yielding different XP based on level lies in your character's evolving capacity to learn and absorb from experiences. Imagine a young, inexperienced adventurer (Level 1) encountering a profound moral dilemma; their limited worldview and practical experience means they might only grasp a fraction of the lesson. As they gain levels, they accumulate wisdom, maturity, and a deeper understanding, allowing them to process and integrate new insights more profoundly. The XP, therefore, reflects not just the external event, but also the internal transformation and growth that comes with a character's increasing ability to notice, absorb, embrace, and utilize life's lessons over time.
